| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | amended by adding Section 130.0106 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | Sec. 130.0106. OCCUPATIONAL AND LIFE SKILLS ASSOCIATE |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | DEGREE PROGRAM. (a) The governing board of the Lone Star College |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | System District may establish an occupational and life skills |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | associate degree program at each junior college in the district. |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | (b) An occupational and life skills associate degree |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | program established at a junior college under this section must |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | require a student to successfully complete: |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | (1) an appropriate curriculum of required courses for |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | the degree program adopted by the governing board of the junior |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | college district; and |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | (2) additional courses selected by the student in the |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | student's degree plan. |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | (c) Section 61.05151(a) does not apply to an associate |
|---|
| 23 | 29 | | degree program established under this section. |
|---|
| 24 | 30 | | (d) The coordinating board shall adopt rules as necessary |
|---|
| 25 | 31 | | for the administration of this section. |
|---|
| 26 | 32 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 33 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 34 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 35 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 36 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
