55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the creation of a grant program to assist fire
88 departments and volunteer fire departments with the purchase of
99 certain equipment and machines.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 419, Government Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 419.910 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 419.910. GRANT PROGRAM. (a) The commission shall
1414 establish and administer a grant program to provide financial
1515 assistance to a fire department or volunteer fire department
1616 seeking to purchase fire-fighting equipment or a machine to clean
1717 fire-fighting equipment. Any fire department or volunteer fire
1818 department in this state may apply for a grant under this section.
1919 (b) A fire department or volunteer fire department
2020 receiving a grant under this section must, as soon as practicable
2121 after receiving the grant, provide to the commission proof of
2222 purchase of fire-fighting equipment or a machine to clean
2323 fire-fighting equipment, including the price of each piece of
2424 equipment or machine and the number of items purchased.
2525 (c) Not later than December 1 of each year, the commission
2626 shall submit a report to the Legislative Budget Board reporting the
2727 following information for the preceding state fiscal year:
2828 (1) the name of each fire department and volunteer
2929 fire department that applied for a grant under this section;
3030 (2) the amount of money distributed to each department
3131 that received a grant under this section; and
3232 (3) the number and a description of items purchased by
3333 each department described by Subdivision (2).
3434 (d) The commission may use any revenue available for
3535 purposes of this section.
3636 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3737 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3838 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3939 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4040 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
