| 7 | 7 | | relating to the creation of a grant program to assist fire |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | departments and volunteer fire departments with the purchase of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | certain equipment and machines. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 419, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 419.910 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 419.910. GRANT PROGRAM. (a) The commission shall |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | establish and administer a grant program to provide financial |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | assistance to a fire department or volunteer fire department |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | seeking to purchase fire-fighting equipment or a machine to clean |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | fire-fighting equipment. Any fire department or volunteer fire |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | department in this state may apply for a grant under this section. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) A fire department or volunteer fire department |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | receiving a grant under this section must, as soon as practicable |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | after receiving the grant, provide to the commission proof of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | purchase of fire-fighting equipment or a machine to clean |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | fire-fighting equipment, including the price of each piece of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | equipment or machine and the number of items purchased. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (c) Not later than December 1 of each year, the commission |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | shall submit a report to the Legislative Budget Board reporting the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | following information for the preceding state fiscal year: |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (1) the name of each fire department and volunteer |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | fire department that applied for a grant under this section; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (2) the amount of money distributed to each department |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | that received a grant under this section; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (3) the number and a description of items purchased by |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | each department described by Subdivision (2). |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (d) The commission may use any revenue available for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | purposes of this section. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
