9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 62, Labor Code, is amended | |
11 | 11 | by adding Section 62.058 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 62.058. MINIMUM WAGE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES. (a) | |
13 | 13 | In this section: | |
14 | 14 | (1) "Open-enrollment charter school" means a school | |
15 | 15 | that has been granted a charter under Subchapter D, Chapter 12, | |
16 | 16 | Education Code. | |
17 | 17 | (2) "School district" means any public school district | |
18 | 18 | in this state. | |
19 | 19 | (b) Notwithstanding Section 62.051 or 62.151 or any other | |
20 | 20 | law, an open-enrollment charter school or school district shall pay | |
21 | 21 | to each employee of the open-enrollment charter school or school | |
22 | 22 | district not less than the greater of: | |
23 | 23 | (1) $15 an hour; or | |
24 | 24 | (2) the federal minimum wage under Section 6, Fair | |
25 | 25 | Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C. Section 206). | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
