410 AN ACT
511 relating to the issuance of sickle cell disease awareness specialty
612 license plates.
713 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
814 SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code,
915 is amended by adding Section 504.671 to read as follows:
1016 Sec. 504.671. SICKLE CELL DISEASE AWARENESS LICENSE PLATES.
1117 (a) The department shall issue specialty license plates that
1218 include the words "Sickle Cell Matters" and an image of the burgundy
1319 sickle cell ribbon. The department shall design the plates in
1420 consultation with the Sickle Cell Association of Houston.
1521 (b) After deduction of the department's administrative
1622 costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates
1723 shall be deposited to the credit of an account created by the
1824 comptroller in the manner provided by Section 504.6012(b). Money
1925 deposited to that account may be used only by Texas Southern
2026 University to make grants to a nonprofit organization that has a
2127 history of providing services to persons with sickle cell disease
2228 for the purpose of providing those services.
2329 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
