77 relating to information and outreach regarding hurricane
88 preparedness and mitigation.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 418, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Sections 418.127 and 418.128 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 418.127. HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS. The governor shall
1313 issue a proclamation each year before hurricane season instructing:
1414 (1) individuals, including residential and commercial
1515 property owners, to prepare their property and communities for the
1616 upcoming hurricane season;
1717 (2) state agencies to review and update their
1818 hurricane preparedness plans; and
1919 (3) the following entities, to the extent practicable,
2020 to conduct community outreach and education activities on hurricane
2121 preparedness between May 25 and May 31 of each year:
2222 (A) municipalities and counties;
2323 (B) the division;
2424 (C) the Texas Education Agency;
2525 (D) the office of the comptroller; and
2626 (E) the Texas Department of Insurance.
2727 Sec. 418.128. HOUSING ASSISTANCE INFORMATION. The General
2828 Land Office shall conduct a public information campaign each year
2929 before and during hurricane season to provide local officials and
3030 the public with information regarding housing assistance that may
3131 be available under state and federal law in the event of a major
3232 hurricane or flooding event, including information about types of
3333 assistance unavailable under that law.
3434 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
