| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 503.001, Transportation Code, is amended | |
| 10 | 10 | by adding Subdivision (9-a) to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (9-a) "License plate" means any type of regular or | |
| 12 | 12 | temporary plate or tag, including replacement license plates and | |
| 13 | 13 | license plates with numbers or a combination of letters and | |
| 14 | 14 | numbers, made of metal, paper, or another material, that is issued: | |
| 15 | 15 | (A) by the department or a person authorized by | |
| 16 | 16 | the department to issue the plates; and | |
| 17 | 17 | (B) for the purpose of authorizing a vehicle to | |
| 18 | 18 | operate on a highway or another purpose authorized by law. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Section 504.001, Transportation Code, is amended | |
| 20 | 20 | by adding Subdivision (2-a) to read as follows: | |
| 21 | 21 | (2-a) "License plate" has the meaning assigned by | |
| 22 | 22 | Section 503.001. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
