6	6	AN ACT
7	7	relating to the billing codes used for the administration of tissue
8	8	plasminogen activator by ambulance providers under the Medicaid and
9	9	Medicare programs.
10	10	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
11	11	SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 531, Government Code, is
12	12	amended by adding Section 531.024136 to read as follows:
13	13	Sec. 531.024136. MEDICAID BILLING CODE FOR TISSUE
14	14	PLASMINOGEN ACTIVATOR ADMINISTERED BY AMBULANCE PROVIDERS. The
15	15	executive commissioner by rule shall adopt a specific procedure or
16	16	other billing code under Medicaid for the administration of tissue
17	17	plasminogen activator by an ambulance provider.
18	18	SECTION 2. As soon as possible after the effective date of
19	19	this Act, the Health and Human Services Commission shall request
20	20	that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services or other
21	21	appropriate federal agency adopt a specific procedure or other
22	22	billing code for the administration of tissue plasminogen activator
23	23	by an ambulance provider under the Medicare program.
24	24	SECTION 3. If before implementing any provision of this Act
25	25	a state agency determines that a waiver or authorization from a
26	26	federal agency is necessary for implementation of that provision,
27	27	the agency affected by the provision shall request the waiver or
28	28	authorization and may delay implementing that provision until the
29	29	waiver or authorization is granted.
30	30	SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
