77 relating to educational requirements for hospital case managers.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 241, Health and Safety
1010 Code, is amended by adding Section 241.013 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 241.013. HOSPITAL CASE MANAGERS. (a) In this section,
1212 "hospital case manager" means a person who provides health care
1313 coordination, utilization review, discharge planning, and other
1414 services to meet the health care needs of a patient in a hospital.
1515 (b) The executive commissioner by rule shall establish
1616 educational requirements for hospital case managers who are
1717 employed by or are providing services to a hospital. The rules at a
1818 minimum must require a hospital case manager to:
1919 (1) hold a license issued under Chapter 301,
2020 Occupations Code; or
2121 (2) have a master's degree from an accredited
2222 institution of higher education.
2323 (c) The commission shall ensure compliance with the
2424 requirements established under Subsection (b).
2525 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
2626 of this Act, the Health and Human Services Commission shall adopt
2727 the rules necessary to implement Section 241.013, Health and Safety
2828 Code, as added by this Act.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
