55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to compliance with federal coding guidelines for certain
88 divisions and offices within the Health and Human Services
99 Commission.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 531.1023, Government Code, is amended to
1212 read as follows:
1313 Sec. 531.1023. COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL CODING GUIDELINES.
1414 (a) The commission's office of inspector general, including office
1515 staff and any third party with which the office contracts to perform
1616 coding services, and the commission's medical and utilization
1717 review appeals unit shall comply with federal coding guidelines,
1818 including guidelines for diagnosis-related group (DRG) validation
1919 and related audits.
2020 (b) In this section, "federal coding guidelines" means the
2121 code sets and guidelines adopted by the United States Department of
2222 Health and Human Services in accordance with the Health Insurance
2323 Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (42 U.S.C. Section 1320d
2424 et seq.).
2525 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
