10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 531.1023, Government Code, is amended to | |
12 | 12 | read as follows: | |
13 | 13 | Sec. 531.1023. COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL CODING GUIDELINES. | |
14 | 14 | (a) The commission's office of inspector general, including office | |
15 | 15 | staff and any third party with which the office contracts to perform | |
16 | 16 | coding services, and the commission's medical and utilization | |
17 | 17 | review appeals unit shall comply with federal coding guidelines, | |
18 | 18 | including guidelines for diagnosis-related group (DRG) validation | |
19 | 19 | and related audits. | |
20 | 20 | (b) In this section, "federal coding guidelines" means the | |
21 | 21 | code sets and guidelines adopted by the United States Department of | |
22 | 22 | Health and Human Services in accordance with the Health Insurance | |
23 | 23 | Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (42 U.S.C. Section 1320d | |
24 | 24 | et seq.). | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
