55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the training requirements for a person appointed as a
88 county jailer.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1701.310(a), Occupations Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (a) Except as provided by Subsection (e), a person may not
1313 be appointed as a county jailer [, except on a temporary basis,]
1414 unless the person has satisfactorily completed a preparatory
1515 training program, as required by the commission, in the operation
1616 of a county jail at a school operated or licensed by the commission.
1717 The training program must consist of at least eight hours of mental
1818 health training approved by the commission and the Commission on
1919 Jail Standards.
2020 SECTION 2. Section 1701.310(b), Occupations Code, is
2121 repealed.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
