9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 1701.310(a), Occupations Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) Except as provided by Subsection (e), a person may not | |
13 | 13 | be appointed as a county jailer [, except on a temporary basis,] | |
14 | 14 | unless the person has satisfactorily completed a preparatory | |
15 | 15 | training program, as required by the commission, in the operation | |
16 | 16 | of a county jail at a school operated or licensed by the commission. | |
17 | 17 | The training program must consist of at least eight hours of mental | |
18 | 18 | health training approved by the commission and the Commission on | |
19 | 19 | Jail Standards. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 2. Section 1701.310(b), Occupations Code, is | |
21 | 21 | repealed. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
