88 regarding the use of anabolic steroids.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 38.0081, Education Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 Sec. 38.0081. INFORMATION ABOUT STEROIDS. (a) The
1313 [agency, in conjunction with the] Department of State Health
1414 Services Mental Health and Substance Abuse Division, in conjunction
1515 with the University Interscholastic League, shall:
1616 (1) develop information about the use of anabolic
1717 steroids and the health risks involved with such use; and
1818 (2) distribute the information to school districts.
1919 (b) Each school district shall, at appropriate grade levels
2020 as determined by the Department of State Health Services Mental
2121 Health and Substance Abuse Division [State Board of Education],
2222 provide the information developed under Subsection (a) to district
2323 students, particularly to those students involved in
2424 extracurricular athletic activities.
2525 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
2626 school year.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2828 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2929 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3030 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3131 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
