| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 38.0081, Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 38.0081. INFORMATION ABOUT STEROIDS. (a) The |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | [agency, in conjunction with the] Department of State Health |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Services Mental Health and Substance Abuse Division, in conjunction |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with the University Interscholastic League, shall: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) develop information about the use of anabolic |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | steroids and the health risks involved with such use; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) distribute the information to school districts. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) Each school district shall, at appropriate grade levels |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as determined by the Department of State Health Services Mental |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Health and Substance Abuse Division [State Board of Education], |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | provide the information developed under Subsection (a) to district |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | students, particularly to those students involved in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | extracurricular athletic activities. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | school year. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
