55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to acceptable uses by a school district of the
88 instructional materials and technology allotment.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 31.0211(c), Education Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (c) Subject to Subsection (d), funds allotted under this
1313 section may be used to:
1414 (1) purchase:
1515 (A) materials on the list adopted by the
1616 commissioner, as provided by Section 31.0231;
1717 (B) instructional materials, regardless of
1818 whether the instructional materials are on the list adopted under
1919 Section 31.024;
2020 (C) consumable instructional materials,
2121 including workbooks;
2222 (D) instructional materials for use in bilingual
2323 education classes, as provided by Section 31.029;
2424 (E) instructional materials for use in college
2525 preparatory courses under Section 28.014, as provided by Section
2626 31.031;
2727 (F) supplemental instructional materials, as
2828 provided by Section 31.035;
2929 (G) state-developed open education resource
3030 instructional materials, as provided by Subchapter B-1;
3131 (H) instructional materials and technological
3232 equipment under any continuing contracts of the district in effect
3333 on September 1, 2011; [and]
3434 (I) technological equipment necessary to support
3535 the use of materials included on the list adopted by the
3636 commissioner under Section 31.0231 or any instructional materials
3737 purchased with an allotment under this section; and
3838 (J) inventory software or systems for storing and
3939 accessing instructional materials; and
4040 (2) pay:
4141 (A) for training educational personnel directly
4242 involved in student learning in the appropriate use of
4343 instructional materials and for providing for access to
4444 technological equipment for instructional use; and
4545 (B) the salary and other expenses of an employee
4646 who provides technical support for the use of technological
4747 equipment directly involved in student learning.
4848 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
