7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
---|
9 | 15 | | amended by adding Section 662.112 to read as follows: |
---|
10 | 16 | | Sec. 662.112. NEONATAL ABSTINENCE SYNDROME AWARENESS |
---|
11 | 17 | | MONTH. June is Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Awareness Month to |
---|
12 | 18 | | increase awareness of neonatal abstinence syndrome and to |
---|
13 | 19 | | encourage: |
---|
14 | 20 | | (1) awareness of the dangers of opioid and substance |
---|
15 | 21 | | abuse during pregnancy to prevent neonatal abstinence syndrome; |
---|
16 | 22 | | (2) the creation and update of lists of recommended |
---|
17 | 23 | | materials to address neonatal abstinence syndrome available |
---|
18 | 24 | | through the Department of State Health Services and the Health and |
---|
19 | 25 | | Human Services Commission; |
---|
20 | 26 | | (3) electronic circulation of and posting on state and |
---|
21 | 27 | | local agency websites of recommended treatment and recovery |
---|
22 | 28 | | resources; |
---|
23 | 29 | | (4) the availability of resources for mothers-to-be |
---|
24 | 30 | | and new mothers with substance abuse disorders, including health |
---|
25 | 31 | | care services and recovery support services; and |
---|
26 | 32 | | (5) collaboration between state and federal |
---|
27 | 33 | | governmental agencies, hospitals, private health care practices, |
---|
28 | 34 | | health insurance providers, Medicaid providers, and mental health |
---|
29 | 35 | | agencies to increase awareness. |
---|
30 | 36 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
