410 AN ACT
511 relating to designating June as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
612 Awareness Month.
713 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
814 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
915 amended by adding Section 662.112 to read as follows:
1016 Sec. 662.112. NEONATAL ABSTINENCE SYNDROME AWARENESS
1117 MONTH. June is Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Awareness Month to
1218 increase awareness of neonatal abstinence syndrome and to
1319 encourage:
1420 (1) awareness of the dangers of opioid and substance
1521 abuse during pregnancy to prevent neonatal abstinence syndrome;
1622 (2) the creation and update of lists of recommended
1723 materials to address neonatal abstinence syndrome available
1824 through the Department of State Health Services and the Health and
1925 Human Services Commission;
2026 (3) electronic circulation of and posting on state and
2127 local agency websites of recommended treatment and recovery
2228 resources;
2329 (4) the availability of resources for mothers-to-be
2430 and new mothers with substance abuse disorders, including health
2531 care services and recovery support services; and
2632 (5) collaboration between state and federal
2733 governmental agencies, hospitals, private health care practices,
2834 health insurance providers, Medicaid providers, and mental health
2935 agencies to increase awareness.
3036 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
