| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 25, Education Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 25.0823 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 25.0823. REQUIRED MINIMUM EATING TIME. The board of | |
| 13 | 13 | trustees of a school district or the governing body of an | |
| 14 | 14 | open-enrollment charter school shall adopt a policy requiring each | |
| 15 | 15 | campus to ensure that each student who eats a meal on campus is | |
| 16 | 16 | provided at least 10 minutes to eat breakfast and 20 minutes to eat | |
| 17 | 17 | lunch. A district or school may not require a student to participate | |
| 18 | 18 | in any educational instruction or program during the minimum amount | |
| 19 | 19 | of eating time. | |
| 20 | 20 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 | |
| 21 | 21 | school year. | |
| 22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
