| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 502.189, Transportation Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (c) An office authorized to issue motor vehicle | |
| 13 | 13 | registrations shall: | |
| 14 | 14 | (1) specifically ask each person who registers a motor | |
| 15 | 15 | vehicle or renews a motor vehicle registration at that office only | |
| 16 | 16 | the question, "Would you like to register as an organ donor?"; and | |
| 17 | 17 | (2) if the person responds affirmatively to the | |
| 18 | 18 | question asked under Subdivision (1), provide the person's name, | |
| 19 | 19 | date of birth, driver's license number, most recent address, and | |
| 20 | 20 | other information needed for identification purposes at the time of | |
| 21 | 21 | donation to the nonprofit organization designated to maintain and | |
| 22 | 22 | administer the statewide donor registry under Section 692A.020, | |
| 23 | 23 | Health and Safety Code, for inclusion in the registry. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
