| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 434.026 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 434.026. CITIZENSHIP OF VETERAN. (a) The Texas | |
| 13 | 13 | Veterans Commission shall determine the citizenship status of a | |
| 14 | 14 | veteran in this state. | |
| 15 | 15 | (b) If a veteran in this state is not a citizen of the United | |
| 16 | 16 | States, the commission shall assist the veteran in becoming a | |
| 17 | 17 | United States citizen and facilitate the naturalization process. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
