66 AN ACT
77 relating to the establishment and maintenance of a glaucoma
88 comanagement registry.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 153, Occupations Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 153.017 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 153.017. GLAUCOMA COMANAGEMENT REGISTRY. (a) The
1313 board shall:
1414 (1) establish and maintain a registry of
1515 ophthalmologists engaged in the comanagement of patients with
1616 therapeutic optometrists under Section 351.3581; and
1717 (2) make the registry available to the public through
1818 a link on the board's Internet website.
1919 (b) The registry must be searchable by:
2020 (1) the name of the ophthalmologist;
2121 (2) the name of the therapeutic optometrist; and
2222 (3) the county that an ophthalmologist in the registry
2323 lists as a primary practice location.
2424 (c) An ophthalmologist engaged in the comanagement of
2525 patients under Section 351.3581 shall provide to the board the name
2626 of each therapeutic optometrist with whom the ophthalmologist is
2727 comanaging patients for inclusion in the comanagement registry
2828 maintained under this section.
2929 (d) The board shall establish procedures to allow an
3030 ophthalmologist who provides information for inclusion in the
3131 comanagement registry maintained under this section to update the
3232 information through the registry's Internet website. The board
3333 shall require the ophthalmologist to update the information at
3434 least annually.
3535 SECTION 2. Not later than March 1, 2020, the Texas Medical
3636 Board shall establish the registry required by Section 153.017,
3737 Occupations Code, as added by this Act.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
