9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 30, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 30.022 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 30.022. STANDING OF MUNICIPALITIES IN CERTAIN ACTIONS. | |
13 | 13 | A municipality has standing to bring or intervene in a civil action | |
14 | 14 | if the intervention is necessary to protect or defend the rights of | |
15 | 15 | a resident of the municipality. This section applies regardless of | |
16 | 16 | whether the party opposing the municipal resident is located | |
17 | 17 | outside of the municipality. | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. Section 30.022, Civil Practice and Remedies | |
19 | 19 | Code, as added by this Act, applies only to an action filed on or | |
20 | 20 | after the effective date of this Act. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
