55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the requirements for an honorably retired peace officer
88 to obtain a license to carry a handgun.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 411.199, Government Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:
1212 (b-1) An applicant under this section is not required to
1313 complete the handgun proficiency course described by Section
1414 411.188 to obtain a license under this subchapter if the applicant:
1515 (1) complies with Subsection (b) and the other
1616 requirements of this subchapter; and
1717 (2) submits the application not later than the fifth
1818 anniversary of the applicant's date of retirement from the law
1919 enforcement agency.
2020 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2121 to an application to obtain a license to carry a handgun submitted
2222 on or after the effective date of this Act. An application
2323 submitted before the effective date of this Act is governed by the
2424 law in effect on the date the application was submitted, and the
2525 former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
