8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Sec. 22.08, Penal Code, is amended to read as | |
10 | 10 | follows: | |
11 | 11 | (a) A person commits an offense if, with intent to promote | |
12 | 12 | or assist the commission of suicide by another, he incites, aids, or | |
13 | 13 | attempts to aid the other to commit or attempt to commit suicide. | |
14 | 14 | (b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor | |
15 | 15 | unless the actor's conduct causes suicide or attempted suicide that | |
16 | 16 | results in serious bodily injury, in which event the offense is a | |
17 | 17 | state jail felony. | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
19 | 19 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
20 | 20 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
21 | 21 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
22 | 22 | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
