55 AN ACT
66 relating to creating abbreviated educator preparation programs for
77 certification in marketing and certification in health science.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 21.0444 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 21.0444. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING
1212 CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE CERTIFICATE. (a) The board
1313 shall propose rules under this subchapter to create abbreviated
1414 educator preparation programs for a candidate seeking:
1515 (1) a certification to teach courses in marketing; and
1616 (2) a certification to teach courses in health
1717 science.
1818 (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs
1919 under this section, the board shall ensure that each program at a
2020 minimum requires 200 hours of coursework or training.
2121 SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall
2222 propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and
2323 renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for
2424 certification in marketing and certification in health science.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
