| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 21.0444 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sec. 21.0444. EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAMS FOR MARKETING |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | CERTIFICATE AND FOR HEALTH SCIENCE CERTIFICATE. (a) The board |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | shall propose rules under this subchapter to create abbreviated |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | educator preparation programs for a candidate seeking: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) a certification to teach courses in marketing; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) a certification to teach courses in health |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | science. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (b) In proposing rules for educator preparation programs |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | under this section, the board shall ensure that each program at a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | minimum requires 200 hours of coursework or training. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. The State Board for Educator Certification shall |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | propose rules establishing standards to govern the approval and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | renewal of approval of educator preparation programs for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | certification in marketing and certification in health science. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
