9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 11.201, Education Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (b-1) A school district may not employ a superintendent for | |
13 | 13 | an annual salary in an amount that is greater than 150 percent of | |
14 | 14 | the amount of the annual salary authorized by the legislature for | |
15 | 15 | the governor. For purposes of this subsection, a superintendent's | |
16 | 16 | annual salary does not include an amount paid by the district as: | |
17 | 17 | (1) a bonus; or | |
18 | 18 | (2) an allowance or stipend. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act applies to an employment contract that | |
20 | 20 | is entered into on or after September 1, 2019. An employment | |
21 | 21 | contract that is entered into before September 1, 2019, is governed | |
22 | 22 | by the law as it existed at the time the contract was entered into, | |
23 | 23 | and the former law remains in effect for that purpose. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
