| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.1101(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (a) Hidalgo County has the following statutory county |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | courts: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) County Court at Law No. 1 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (2) County Court at Law No. 2 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (3) County Court at Law No. 4 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (4) County Court at Law No. 5 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (5) County Court at Law No. 6 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (6) County Court at Law No. 7 of Hidalgo County; [and] |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (7) County Court at Law No. 8 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (8) County Court at Law No. 9 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (9) County Court at Law No. 10 of Hidalgo County; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (10) County Court at Law No. 11 of Hidalgo County; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (11) County Court at Law No. 12 of Hidalgo County. |

| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 25.0009, Government |

| 26 | 26 | | Code, the initial vacancies in the offices of judge of County Court |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | at Law No. 9 of Hidalgo County and judge of County Court at Law |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | No. 10 of Hidalgo County shall be filled by election. The offices |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | exist for purposes of the primary and general elections of 2022. A |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | vacancy after the initial vacancies is filled as provided by |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Section 25.0009, Government Code. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 25.0009, Government |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Code, the initial vacancies in the offices of judge of County Court |

| 34 | 34 | | at Law No. 11 of Hidalgo County and judge of County Court at Law |

| 35 | 35 | | No. 12 of Hidalgo County shall be filled by election. The offices |

| 42 | 42 | | SECTION 5. County Court at Law No. 11 of Hidalgo County and |

| 43 | 43 | | County Court at Law No. 12 of Hidalgo County are created on January |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | SECTION 6. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
