8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 419.909(a), Government Code, is amended | |
10 | 10 | to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | (a) Only an individual certified by the commission as a fire | |
12 | 12 | inspector may conduct a fire safety inspection required by a state | |
13 | 13 | or local law, rule, regulation, or ordinance. The following | |
14 | 14 | entities may provide training related to fire safety inspections: | |
15 | 15 | (1) the commission; | |
16 | 16 | (2) the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association | |
17 | 17 | of Texas; | |
18 | 18 | (3) the National Fire Protection Association; | |
19 | 19 | (4) a public junior college; | |
20 | 20 | (5) a regional fire academy; or | |
21 | 21 | (6) any state agency with authority over fire safety | |
22 | 22 | inspections. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
24 | 24 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
25 | 25 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. | |
26 | 26 | If this | |
27 | 27 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
28 | 28 | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
