77 relating to a peace officer training advisory committee.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 1701.2511 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 1701.2511. OFFICER TRAINING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a)
1212 The officer training advisory committee is created. The committee
1313 is composed of:
1414 (1) one member of the legislature, appointed by the
1515 governor and designated by the governor as the chair of the
1616 committee;
1717 (2) three members of the senate, appointed by the
1818 lieutenant governor; and
1919 (3) three members of the house of representatives,
2020 appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.
2121 (b) The committee shall conduct a study of the training
2222 programs the commission establishes and maintains under this
2323 chapter for officers who are required to hold a license as provided
2424 by Section 1701.301. The study must take into account the school
2525 curriculum, examination requirement, and training programs
2626 required for a person who seeks to become licensed as an officer.
2727 (c) The committee shall meet at the call of the chair.
2828 (d) Not later than December 1, 2020, the committee shall
2929 report the committee's findings and recommendations to the members
3030 of the legislature. The committee's recommendations must include
3131 ways to improve the training programs provided by the commission to
3232 persons who seek a license as an officer under this chapter.
3333 (e) This section expires December 1, 2021.
3434 SECTION 2. Not later than November 1, 2019, the relevant
3535 appointing officers shall appoint the members of the officer
3636 training advisory committee under Section 1701.2511, Occupations
3737 Code, as added by this Act.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
