8 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 501, Government Code, is | |
10 | 11 | amended by adding Section 501.0125 to read as follows: | |
11 | 12 | Sec. 501.0125. INFORMATION ON PARENTAL STATUS OF INMATES. | |
12 | 13 | (a) The department shall maintain and annually update statistical | |
13 | 14 | information on the number of inmates confined in a facility | |
14 | 15 | operated by or under contract with the department who are parents of | |

16 | + | a child of any age. | |
16 | 17 | (b) Not later than December 31 of each year, the department | |
17 | 18 | shall submit to the Texas Education Agency and Department of Family | |
18 | 19 | and Protective Services a report summarizing the information | |
19 | 20 | described by Subsection (a) for the preceding fiscal year. | |
20 | 21 | SECTION 2. Not later than December 31, 2020, the Texas | |
21 | 22 | Department of Criminal Justice shall submit to the Texas Education | |
22 | 23 | Agency and Department of Family and Protective Services the first | |
23 | 24 | report required by Section 501.0125, Government Code, as added by | |
24 | 25 | this Act. | |
25 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
