410 AN ACT
511 relating to the public high school graduation credit requirements
612 for a language other than English.
713 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
814 SECTION 1. Section 28.025(b-21), Education Code, is amended
915 to read as follows:
1016 (b-21) In adopting rules under Subsection (b-1), the State
1117 Board of Education shall adopt criteria to allow a student to comply
1218 with the curriculum requirement for one credit under Subsection
1319 (b-1)(5) by successfully completing at an elementary school either
1420 a dual language immersion program under Section 28.0051 or a course
1521 in American Sign Language [at an elementary school].
1622 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1723 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1824 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
1925 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2026 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
