109 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1110 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
1211 amended by adding Section 662.071 to read as follows:
13- Sec. 662.071. MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY. (a) May 8
14- is Military Spouse Appreciation Day to recognize the role of the
15- husbands and wives of the brave individuals who serve in the United
16- States armed forces or state military forces. This day
17- commemorates:
18- (1) the sacrifices military spouses make during the
19- weeks, months, and years a loved one is away from home protecting
20- our freedom; and
21- (2) the vital support military spouses provide to
22- veterans returning home from military service.
23- (b) Military Spouse Appreciation Day shall be regularly
24- observed by appropriate programs and activities coordinated by the
25- Texas Veterans Commission.
12+ Sec. 662.071. MILITARY SPOUSE AND PARTNER APPRECIATION DAY.
13+ (a) May 8 is Military Spouse and Partner Appreciation Day to
14+ recognize the role of the wives, husbands, and partners of the brave
15+ individuals who serve in the United States armed forces or state
16+ military forces. This day commemorates:
17+ (1) the sacrifices military spouses and partners make
18+ during the weeks, months, and years a loved one is away from home
19+ protecting our freedom; and
20+ (2) the vital support military spouses and partners
21+ provide to veterans returning home from military service.
22+ (b) Military Spouse and Partner Appreciation Day shall be
23+ regularly observed by appropriate programs and activities
24+ coordinated by the Texas Veterans Commission.
2625 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2726 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2827 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2928 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3029 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
