8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor |

9 | 10 | | Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of |

10 | 11 | | individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's |

11 | 12 | | highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join |
---|
12 | 13 | | together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal |
---|
13 | 14 | | recipients to the city for a special series of events; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Petty Officer Ingram served in the United States |
---|
15 | 16 | | Navy as a corpsman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st |
---|
16 | 17 | | Marine Division during the Vietnam War; on March 28, 1966, his |
---|
17 | 18 | | platoon was attacked by the North Vietnamese in Quang Ngai |
---|
18 | 19 | | Province; without regard for his personal safety, he crawled across |
---|
19 | 20 | | a fire-swept, bullet-spattered landscape to administer aid to the |
---|
20 | 21 | | wounded and collect ammunition from the dead; he was shot four times |
---|
21 | 22 | | that day, and despite being critically injured, he pushed, pulled, |
---|
22 | 23 | | consoled, and doctored his marines, single-handedly saving many |
---|
23 | 24 | | lives while risking his own; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of |

25 | 26 | | duty, Robert Ingram fulfilled the highest ideals of the United |
---|
26 | 27 | | States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a |

27 | 28 | | grateful nation; now, therefore, be it |

28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |

29 | 30 | | hereby pay tribute to Robert R. Ingram on the occasion of the 2019 |
