|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Major |

| 16 | 16 | | Modrzejewski served in Vietnam as a member of Company K in the 3rd |

| 17 | 17 | | Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division; during Operation |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Hastings, he led the soldiers of his unit to capture a stockpile of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | ammunition and supplies, which provoked a fierce counterattack by |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the North Vietnamese that lasted two and a half days; on the second |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | night, Major Modrzejewski was wounded in a close-quarters |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | firefight, but he crawled 200 meters to provide critically needed |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | ammunition to an exposed element of his command; his bravery did |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | much to boost the morale of his men in the midst of prolonged |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | fighting, and on the final day, they were able to repel the enemy's |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | assaults with the aid of strategic air and artillery strikes; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | duty, Robert J. Modrzejewski fulfilled the highest ideals of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | United States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | admiration of a grateful nation; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
