| 9 | 10 | | Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of |

| 10 | 11 | | individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's |

| 11 | 12 | | highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join |

| 12 | 13 | | together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | recipients to the city for a special series of events; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Walter Marm earned his |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War, when he was a platoon leader |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | with the 1st Cavalry Division; during an operation to relieve a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | friendly unit that was surrounded by the enemy, his platoon came |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | under withering fire; after killing four enemy soldiers, he |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | single-handedly attacked a concealed machine gun, first with an |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | antitank weapon and then by charging it across 30 meters of open |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | ground and lobbing hand grenades; finally, despite being wounded, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | he continued to use his rifle until he had killed all eight of the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | enemy soldiers manning the gun; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of |

| 25 | 26 | | duty, Walter Marm fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States |

| 26 | 27 | | armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a grateful |

| 27 | 28 | | nation; now, therefore, be it |
