6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Approximately 80 percent of adults experience lower |

7 | 7 | | back pain at some point in their lifetime, and lower back pain is |

8 | 8 | | the most common cause of job-related disability; and |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The American College of Physicians recommends |
---|
10 | 10 | | nonpharmacological therapy, such as spinal manipulation and |
---|
11 | 11 | | exercise, as the first course of treatment for acute and chronic |
---|
12 | 12 | | lower back pain; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Evidence supports the use of nonpharmacological |
---|
14 | 14 | | care as a valuable tool for treating a wide range of conditions, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | in many cases, it offers results that are comparable or superior to |
---|
16 | 16 | | those of prescription medications, without adverse side effects; |
---|
17 | 17 | | and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The State of Texas is home to more than 5,300 |
---|
19 | 19 | | licensed doctors of chiropractic who, as health care providers, |
---|
20 | 20 | | promote musculoskeletal health and overall wellness through a |
---|
21 | 21 | | patient-centered, whole-person approach; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Doctors of chiropractic are recognized |
---|
23 | 23 | | internationally for their health care and injury prevention |
---|
24 | 24 | | services, which can help patients to recover naturally, to avoid |
---|
25 | 25 | | unnecessary drugs and surgery, and to quickly resume regular |
---|
26 | 26 | | activities; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The treatment provided by doctors of chiropractic |
---|
28 | 28 | | has proven effective for many individuals in Texas and beyond, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | Chiropractic Health Month in October provides a fitting opportunity |
---|
30 | 30 | | to recognize these practitioners for the important services they |
---|
31 | 31 | | provide; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | hereby designate October as Chiropractic Health Month; and, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That in accordance with the provisions of Section |
---|
36 | 36 | | 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
---|
37 | 37 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
---|
38 | 38 | | passed by the legislature. |
