55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, Approximately 80 percent of adults experience lower
77 back pain at some point in their lifetime, and lower back pain is
88 the most common cause of job-related disability; and
99 WHEREAS, The American College of Physicians recommends
1010 nonpharmacological therapy, such as spinal manipulation and
1111 exercise, as the first course of treatment for acute and chronic
1212 lower back pain; and
1313 WHEREAS, Evidence supports the use of nonpharmacological
1414 care as a valuable tool for treating a wide range of conditions, and
1515 in many cases, it offers results that are comparable or superior to
1616 those of prescription medications, without adverse side effects;
1717 and
1818 WHEREAS, The State of Texas is home to more than 5,300
1919 licensed doctors of chiropractic who, as health care providers,
2020 promote musculoskeletal health and overall wellness through a
2121 patient-centered, whole-person approach; and
2222 WHEREAS, Doctors of chiropractic are recognized
2323 internationally for their health care and injury prevention
2424 services, which can help patients to recover naturally, to avoid
2525 unnecessary drugs and surgery, and to quickly resume regular
2626 activities; and
2727 WHEREAS, The treatment provided by doctors of chiropractic
2828 has proven effective for many individuals in Texas and beyond, and
2929 Chiropractic Health Month in October provides a fitting opportunity
3030 to recognize these practitioners for the important services they
3131 provide; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
3333 hereby designate October as Chiropractic Health Month; and, be it
3434 further
3535 RESOLVED, That in accordance with the provisions of Section
3636 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3737 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3838 passed by the legislature.
