74 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
85 WHEREAS, Each day, countless people are exposed to sexually
96 explicit content through a wide range of media, and these consumers
107 are often unaware of the health risks posed by such material; and
118 WHEREAS, Children are encountering pornography before their
129 teens, and this early exposure may lead to low self-esteem and body
1310 image disorders and an increased desire to engage in risky sexual
1411 behavior; and
1512 WHEREAS, Besides promoting unhealthy sexual expectations,
1613 the adult entertainment industry produces media that objectify
1714 women and children as well as depict rape and abuse; by associating
1815 violence with sexual gratification, these materials perpetuate the
1916 demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child pornography, and
2017 sexual abuse images; and
2118 WHEREAS, Pornography has also been linked to such detrimental
2219 health effects as brain development complications, emotional and
2320 medical afflictions, the inability to form and maintain intimate
2421 relationships, and sexual addiction; these dangers not only affect
2522 people on an individual level but also contribute to the
2623 degradation of the family unit, frequently leading to marital
2724 dissatisfaction and infidelity; and
2825 WHEREAS, The ubiquity of pornography has resulted in a host
2926 of societal problems and potentially negative health effects, and
3027 it is of paramount importance that our leaders tackle this critical
3128 public health issue; now, therefore, be it
3229 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
3330 hereby recognize that pornography is a public health hazard; and,
3431 be it further
3532 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
3633 recognize the need for education, prevention, research, and policy
3734 changes to address the harmful influence and consequences of
3835 pornography.
