| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Ten Commandments set forth a code of moral |

| 7 | 7 | | conduct that has had a significant impact on the development of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | legal principles of western civilization; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, It is clear from their writings that our founding |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | fathers believed devotedly that there was a God, and throughout |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | American history all three branches of government have acknowledged |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the strong role of religion in our nation's heritage and in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | lives of its citizens; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Government should not now or ever demonstrate any |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | hostility to observances of faith by disabling the recognition of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | our religious heritage; reflecting our history as a religious |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | people, prayers, including the use of the word "God," at public |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | gatherings and displays of the Ten Commandments in public |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | educational institutions and other government buildings are |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | acknowledgements of the continuing and important role of our |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | religious tradition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | hereby support prayers, including the use of the word "God," at |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | public gatherings and displays of the Ten Commandments in public |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | educational institutions and other government buildings. |
