8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Amarillo, Michael Miller received |

9 | 10 | | his bachelor's degree from Baylor University before earning his |
---|
10 | 11 | | medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
---|
11 | 12 | | San Antonio in 1979; he began his career with the U.S. Navy, serving |
---|
12 | 13 | | on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health |
---|
13 | 14 | | Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and as chief of cardiology at the |
---|
14 | 15 | | naval hospital in Oakland, California, where he was also director |
---|
15 | 16 | | of the internal medicine training program; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1989, following his military service, Dr. Miller |
---|
17 | 18 | | joined Permian Cardiology in Midland, where he specialized in |
---|
18 | 19 | | preventive cardiology and the treatment of myocardial infarction; |
---|
19 | 20 | | he played a vital role in establishing the Myocardial Infarction |
---|
20 | 21 | | Task Force at Midland Memorial Hospital, helping the institution |
---|
21 | 22 | | win three Gold Awards from the American Heart Association; in |
---|
22 | 23 | | addition, he has taught as a clinical associate professor at the |
---|
23 | 24 | | Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and |
---|
24 | 25 | | served as the regional councilor and legislative chair of the Texas |
---|
25 | 26 | | Chapter of the American College of Cardiology; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller has found time to give back to his |
---|
27 | 28 | | community as a board member of the American Heart Association, |
---|
28 | 29 | | United Way, and Casa de Amigos, and he has been involved for many |
---|
29 | 30 | | years with the Boy Scouts; deeply devoted to his faith, he has |
---|
30 | 31 | | traveled to Guyana on a medical mission trip and actively supported |
---|
31 | 32 | | Samaritan's Purse; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and |
---|
32 | 33 | | support of his wife, Linda, and he takes pride in their two children |
---|
33 | 34 | | and four grandchildren; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Miller's dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
35 | 36 | | expertise have greatly benefited his patients and the community of |
---|
36 | 37 | | Midland, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent |
---|
37 | 38 | | as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |

40 | 41 | | hereby congratulate Dr. Michael Miller on his retirement from |
