8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, From 2004 through 2010, Ms. England served as |

9 | 10 | | administrator of the Presidential Archives and Leadership Library, |
---|
10 | 11 | | which is dedicated to the study of the office of the presidency and |
---|
11 | 12 | | of our nation's constitutional government and presidential |
---|
12 | 13 | | election process; she first joined the museum staff in the 1980s as |
---|
13 | 14 | | education/marketing director, during which time she was essential |
---|
14 | 15 | | to the construction of an exhibit depicting the chronology and |
---|
15 | 16 | | history of the United States from George Washington's presidency to |
---|
16 | 17 | | President Kennedy and the Civil Rights Era; she has worked |
---|
17 | 18 | | diligently through the years to support the institution, and her |
---|
18 | 19 | | leadership was especially vital following the arson fire in 2007 |
---|
19 | 20 | | that damaged the historic home once owned by former President |
---|
20 | 21 | | George H. W. Bush, which stands on the museum grounds; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Ms. England has also devoted herself to assisting |
---|
22 | 23 | | children and the elderly during her 56 years as an Odessa resident; |
---|
23 | 24 | | she served as president of the Austin Elementary School PTA for |
---|
24 | 25 | | three years and was appointed to the Ector County Child Welfare |
---|
25 | 26 | | Board and the Tri-Ethnic Committee of the Ector County Independent |
---|
26 | 27 | | School District; she advocated for the young, the elderly, and the |
---|
27 | 28 | | arts both locally and statewide as a volunteer in the political |
---|
28 | 29 | | arena; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A licensed social worker, Ms. England is certified |
---|
30 | 31 | | as a family life educator by the National Council of Family |
---|
31 | 32 | | Relations and has many years' experience as a social worker in |
---|
32 | 33 | | hospice and long-term care; she served as a member of the public |
---|
33 | 34 | | policy committee of the Texas Association of Homes and Services for |
---|
34 | 35 | | the Aging; moreover, she founded the Midland Odessa chapter of the |
---|
35 | 36 | | Compassionate Friends support group for the bereaved; with degrees |
---|
36 | 37 | | in psychology, education, and history, she has served as a |
---|
37 | 38 | | continuing education instructor at Midland and Odessa College and |
---|
38 | 39 | | as a guest lecturer in the sociology department of The University of |
---|
39 | 40 | | Texas of the Permian Basin; she has also served on the board of the |
---|
40 | 41 | | Permian Playhouse and was instrumental in obtaining a grant to |
---|
41 | 42 | | support the playhouse; and |
---|
42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Through her myriad endeavors, this dynamic Texan has |
---|
43 | 44 | | made Odessa a better place to live and work, and it is indeed a |
---|
44 | 45 | | pleasure to recognize her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
46 | 47 | | hereby honor Lettie England for her contributions to her community |
---|
47 | 48 | | and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
