| 6 | 6 | WHEREAS, On January 22, 1973, the majority of the members of | |
| 7 | 7 | the United States Supreme Court ruled, in Roe v. Wade, that abortion | |
| 8 | 8 | was a right secured by the U.S. Constitution; and | |
| 9 | 9 | WHEREAS, Since that fateful day, more than 58 million unborn | |
| 10 | 10 | children have perished; now, therefore, be it | |
| 11 | 11 | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas | |
| 12 | 12 | hereby designate January 22 as the Day of Tears and encourage the | |
| 13 | 13 | citizens of the Lone Star State to lower their flags to half-staff | |
| 14 | 14 | on that day; and, be it further | |
| 15 | 15 | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section | |
| 16 | 16 | 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect | |
| 17 | 17 | until the 10th anniversary of the date that this resolution is | |
| 18 | 18 | finally passed by the legislature. |
