| 17 | 18 | | the 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division; after his |

| 18 | 19 | | unit suffered more than 30 casualties in the first few minutes of an |

| 19 | 20 | | air assault on a heavily fortified enemy position, Specialist |

| 20 | 21 | | Sasser gallantly ran across an open rice paddy amid a hail of |

| 21 | 22 | | bullets to tend to the injured; he continued to provide urgently |

| 22 | 23 | | needed treatment under intense fire even after being badly wounded |

| 23 | 24 | | himself in both legs and his left shoulder; he ultimately cared for |

| 24 | 25 | | a group of comrades for five hours in desperate circumstances |
