55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing a statewide
77 referendum allowing voters to indicate a preference for exempting
88 this state from daylight saving time or observing daylight saving
99 time year-round.
1010 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1212 adding Section 74 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 74. (a) The legislature by general law may:
1414 (1) hold a statewide referendum that allows the voters
1515 to indicate a preference for either:
1616 (A) exempting the state from daylight saving
1717 time; or
1818 (B) observing daylight saving time year-round;
1919 and
2020 (2) enact a law based on the results of the referendum
2121 exempting the state from daylight saving time or providing for
2222 observing daylight saving time year-round.
2323 (b) A statewide referendum described by Subsection (a) of
2424 this section that is held on the same day as the election on the
2525 constitutional amendment to add this section to this article is
2626 hereby validated.
2727 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2828 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019.
2929 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
3030 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the state
3131 to conduct a statewide referendum to allow the voters to choose
3232 between exempting the state from daylight saving time and observing
3333 daylight saving time year-round and authorizing the legislature to
3434 enact legislation that gives effect to the option preferred by a
3535 majority of the voters voting in the statewide referendum."
