55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment to abolish the office of
77 county treasurer of Milam County.
88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 44, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is
1010 amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1111 (d) The office of County Treasurer in Milam County is
1212 abolished. The Commissioners Court of Milam County may employ or
1313 contract with a qualified person or may designate another county
1414 officer to perform any of the functions that would have been
1515 performed by the County Treasurer if the office had not been
1616 abolished.
1717 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to
1818 the Texas Constitution:
1919 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) The constitutional amendment
2020 proposed by the 86th Legislature, Regular Session, 2019, abolishing
2121 the office of County Treasurer in Milam County takes effect only if,
2222 at the statewide election at which the amendment is submitted to and
2323 approved by the voters, a majority of the voters of Milam County
2424 voting on the question at that election also favor the amendment.
2525 The amendment takes effect January 1, 2020, if the conditions of
2626 this subsection are met.
2727 (b) This temporary provision expires January 2, 2020.
2828 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2929 submitted to the voters at an election to be held on November 5,
3030 2019. The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against
3131 the proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing for the
3232 abolition of the office of county treasurer in Milam County."
