55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment requiring the system of public

88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 1, Article VII, Texas Constitution, is
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 1. A general diffusion of knowledge being essential to
1212 the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall
1313 be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make
1414 suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient
1515 and globally competitive system of public free schools.
1616 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1717 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019.
1818 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
1919 proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring the system of
2020 public free schools to be globally competitive."
