| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bernard Duane Baker of Hondo passed away on March 7, |

| 6 | 7 | | 2018, at the age of 76, leaving his family and friends to cherish |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Devine on August 31, 1941, to Melvin and |

| 9 | 10 | | Florence Baker, Duane Baker grew up with the companionship of three |

| 10 | 11 | | siblings, Melvin, Richard, and Melba; he went on to develop |

| 11 | 12 | | impressive skills as a handyman and mechanic, which led to a career |

| 12 | 13 | | at Universal Rundle, Jack Winkler Motors, UniFirst, and Tire and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Wheel Connection and to operating his own business, Baker's Gulf |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Station; a hard worker, he was also known for the lively sense of |

| 15 | 16 | | humor that he kept even while on the job, which made him very |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | popular with his clients; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1961, Mr. Baker met the love of his life, Carolyn |

| 18 | 19 | | Baker, at the Battle of Flowers Parade in San Antonio, marking the |

| 19 | 20 | | beginning of a relationship that would blossom into 46 years of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | marriage; the couple were active members of their congregation at |

| 21 | 22 | | Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi, where Mr. Baker served in many |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | capacities, and he was also a longtime member of the Hondo Volunteer |

| 23 | 24 | | Fire Department; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Baker embraced his role as a father to his two |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | daughters, Cheryl and Laurie, and supported them as a volunteer for |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | their various clubs and activities, which included serving as |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | president of the Hondo Band boosters club; a proud grandfather to |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | his grandchildren, Katelyn, Clayton, Jacie, and Jett, he enjoyed |

| 29 | 30 | | cheering them on wherever they were performing or competing and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | sharing with them his love of hunting and fishing; he remained a |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | dedicated fan of the Hondo Owls for decades and was a fixture at all |

| 32 | 33 | | of their Friday night football games; and |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Duane Baker lived a full and generous life devoted |

| 34 | 35 | | to his faith, his family, and his community, and he will forever be |

| 35 | 36 | | remembered with deep affection by those who held him dear; now, |
