5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bradley Forrest Cowan is retiring as county |

6 | 7 | | agricultural extension agent for Hidalgo County on January 31, |

7 | 8 | | 2019, drawing to a close a distinguished career that has spanned |

8 | 9 | | four decades; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Brad Cowan started out as an assistant county |
---|
10 | 11 | | agricultural extension agent for Montgomery County in January 1979, |
---|
11 | 12 | | and two years later, he was promoted to county extension agent; he |
---|
12 | 13 | | subsequently took on the same role in Galveston County before |
---|
13 | 14 | | assuming his current position in April 1990; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure with Hidalgo County, Mr. Cowan has |
---|
15 | 16 | | overseen programs and research related to a variety of crops as well |
---|
16 | 17 | | as cattle, forages, irrigation, and water conservation; in |
---|
17 | 18 | | addition, he has provided pesticide license training and assisted |
---|
18 | 19 | | other county faculty with initiatives associated with commercial |
---|
19 | 20 | | produce, urban horticulture, community development, and 4-H |
---|
20 | 21 | | programs; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cowan has held leadership roles with the Texas |
---|
22 | 23 | | County Agricultural Agents Association, the Rio Grande Valley |
---|
23 | 24 | | Livestock Show, and the Hidalgo County Farm Bureau; moreover, he |
---|
24 | 25 | | has given generously of his time and talents to the Conroe Noon |
---|
25 | 26 | | Lions Club, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Edinburg and League |
---|
26 | 27 | | City First United Methodist Churches; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Cowan |
---|
28 | 29 | | has received numerous accolades, including a Special Achievement |
---|
29 | 30 | | Award for Collaborating County Extension Agent from Texas A&M |
---|
30 | 31 | | University, an Outstanding Beef Agent in Texas Award from the Texas |
---|
31 | 32 | | and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, and a Distinguished |
---|
32 | 33 | | Service Award from the TCAAA/NACAA; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cowan holds a bachelor's degree in animal |
---|
34 | 35 | | science and a master's degree in agricultural education from Texas |
---|
35 | 36 | | A&M University; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and |
---|
36 | 37 | | support of his wife, Christine, and he takes great pride in their |
---|
37 | 38 | | four sons and nine grandchildren; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Brad Cowan's dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
39 | 40 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited his fellow Texans, |
---|
40 | 41 | | and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he |
---|
41 | 42 | | embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bradley Forrest Cowan on his |
