5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help comfort the |

6 | 7 | | loved ones of Larry Wayne Corbin of Lubbock, who passed away on June |

7 | 8 | | 3, 2018, at the age of 79; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Larry Corbin was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on |
---|
9 | 10 | | December 2, 1938, to Howard and Naomi Corbin; he was a standout |
---|
10 | 11 | | basketball player at Levelland High School, and after graduating, |
---|
11 | 12 | | he attended West Texas State University on a basketball |
---|
12 | 13 | | scholarship; on August 17, 1958, he exchanged wedding vows with the |
---|
13 | 14 | | former Jackie Roberts, who was his devoted partner in life |
---|
14 | 15 | | throughout nearly six decades of marriage; they became the loving |
---|
15 | 16 | | parents of three children, Ken, Kirk, and Kay, and also shared in |
---|
16 | 17 | | the joy of welcoming into their family five grandchildren, Allen, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Rebecca, Howard, Jack, and Holt, and two great-grandchildren, |
---|
18 | 19 | | Keller and Kamden; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Corbin moved with his wife to Lubbock in 1958 |
---|
20 | 21 | | and joined the family-owned radio station KLLL-AM; by 1970, he was |
---|
21 | 22 | | the sole owner of the station, and he soon thereafter converted it |
---|
22 | 23 | | to FM and adopted a full-time country format, a rarity at the time; |
---|
23 | 24 | | although he sold KLLL-FM in the late 1970s, his influence on the |
---|
24 | 25 | | station helped make it one of the most successful in Lubbock |
---|
25 | 26 | | history, and it remains a heritage station to this day; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Relocating to Alto, New Mexico, in 1984, Mr. Corbin |
---|
27 | 28 | | operated a financial advisory office and enjoyed many memorable |
---|
28 | 29 | | years in the village; in 2001, he and Mrs. Corbin returned to |
---|
29 | 30 | | Lubbock, where he continued working as a financial advisor and |
---|
30 | 31 | | spent the last 13 years with Prospera Financial Services; he shared |
---|
31 | 32 | | with his wife a fondness for traveling and art collecting, and he |
---|
32 | 33 | | always loved telling a good story; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A caring husband, father, and grandfather and a true |
---|
34 | 35 | | and loyal friend, Larry Wayne Corbin will be deeply missed, and he |
---|
35 | 36 | | will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who held him |
---|
36 | 37 | | close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Larry Wayne Corbin and |

39 | 40 | | extend sincere sympathy to those who mourn his passing; and, be it |
