45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The family, friends, and fellow soldiers of
67 U.S. Army Master Sergeant Jonathan J. Dunbar of Austin suffered an
78 immeasurable loss when he was killed in action in Manbij, Syria, on
89 March 30, 2018, at the age of 36; and
910 WHEREAS, Sergeant Dunbar was deployed to Syria from his
1011 assigned post at Headquarters, U.S. Army Special Operations Command
1112 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; supporting a mission as part of
1213 Operation Inherent Resolve, he died when an improvised explosive
1314 device detonated near his patrol; and
1415 WHEREAS, A combat veteran who spent nearly 13 years in the
1516 armed forces, Sergeant Dunbar enlisted in the army in May 2005; he
1617 first served with the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry
1718 Regiment, at Fort Bragg, and in the course of that assignment, he
1819 supported combat operations in Iraq; he transitioned to the 2nd
1920 Squadron, 38th Cavalry Regiment, at Fort Hood in 2009, and during
2021 his four years as a squad leader, he completed an Afghanistan
2122 deployment; after joining the U.S. Army Special Operations Command
2223 in 2013, he deployed three more times to Iraq and Afghanistan; and
2324 WHEREAS, Sergeant Dunbar received numerous honors in the
2425 course of his military service, including three Bronze Star Medals,
2526 four Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, the
2627 National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign
2728 Medals, each with two Bronze Service Stars, the Global War on
2829 Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism
2930 Service Medal; and
3031 WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the U.S. armed
3132 forces, Jonathan Dunbar inspired others with his fortitude,
3233 tenacity, and courage, and his fellow Americans owe him a debt of
3334 gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now,
3435 therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Master
3738 Sergeant Jonathan J. Dunbar and extend sincere condolences to all
3839 who mourn his passing; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for his family and friends and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant
4243 Dunbar.
