| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, North Texas residents were deeply saddened by the |

| 6 | 7 | | loss of Officer David Charles Sherrard of the Richardson Police |

| 7 | 8 | | Department, who was killed in the line of duty on February 7, 2018, |

| 8 | 9 | | at the age of 37; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The son of Margaret and Alvin Sherrard, David |

| 10 | 11 | | Sherrard was born on October 9, 1980, and grew up in Dallas and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Mesquite with a sister, Cristal, and a brother, Mark; he married his |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | high school sweetheart, the former M. Nicole Bradley, in Dallas on |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | November 9, 2002, and they were blessed with two daughters, Emily |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and Grace; devoted to his family, Officer Sherrard enjoyed caring |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | for his children and surprising his wife with little gifts; he was |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | sustained by a strong faith and read the Bible regularly for |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | guidance; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Officer Sherrard was a 13-year veteran of the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Richardson Police, and he served on the SWAT team for a decade; |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | while demonstrating exceptional skill and selfless dedication, he |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | also knew how to lighten the mood with his wonderful sense of humor; |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | his leadership enhanced the effectiveness of the team, and he was a |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | mentor to many younger officers; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A courageous law enforcement officer, David |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Sherrard embodied the highest ideals of his profession, and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | although he is greatly missed by all who were privileged to share in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | his love and friendship, his heroism will remain a lasting source of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | inspiration; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
