6 | 7 | | communities of the Lone Star State, and in 2019, the Garcia family |

7 | 8 | | is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Division Laundry of San |

8 | 9 | | Antonio; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Peter C. Garcia, an immigrant from San Luis PotosÃ, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Mexico, founded Division Laundry as a one-man operation in a small |
---|
11 | 12 | | building inside Fort Sam Houston in 1939; his business originally |
---|
12 | 13 | | provided laundry and sewing services to members of the 2nd Infantry |
---|
13 | 14 | | Division, and after it outgrew its location, Mr. Garcia moved it |
---|
14 | 15 | | into a facility on North New Braunfels Avenue; he again relocated |
---|
15 | 16 | | the business to a new building designed by the National Institute of |
---|
16 | 17 | | Laundering and the National Dry Cleaning Institute in 1964, and |
---|
17 | 18 | | within a decade, it began to transition from being a military |
---|
18 | 19 | | uniform processor to a laundry linen processor; and |

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1992, Mr. Garcia's wife, Cecilia Garcia, became |

20 | 21 | | president of Division Laundry; the business continued to flourish |
---|
21 | 22 | | under her leadership and later under the guidance of the couple's |
---|
22 | 23 | | son, Patrick R. Garcia, its current president; the strength and |
---|
23 | 24 | | resilience of the Garcia family were instrumental in rebuilding the |
---|
24 | 25 | | company after its plant was devastated by a fire in 2001, and two |
---|
25 | 26 | | years later, they celebrated the opening of a new plant in its |
---|
26 | 27 | | place; in honor of the company's "rise from the ashes," a stylized |
---|
27 | 28 | | phoenix now appears on its logo and branding; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Today, Division Laundry continues to honor its |
---|
29 | 30 | | founder's commitment to service and workmanship, and the Garcias |
---|
30 | 31 | | are now welcoming a third generation of family members, Patricia |
---|
31 | 32 | | Luna, Patrick A. Garcia, and Theresa Garcia, onto the leadership |
---|
32 | 33 | | team; through the years, the company has established contracts with |
---|
33 | 34 | | clients that include hospital systems and hotel chains, and it is a |
---|
34 | 35 | | major provider of jobs in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area of |

36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of eight decades, the Garcia |

37 | 38 | | family's hard work, vision, and commitment to excellence have made |

38 | 39 | | Division Laundry an inspiring success story, and it is a pleasure to |

39 | 40 | | join in congratulating its members on this special milestone; now, |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 80th anniversary of Division |
