H.R. No. 1236
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Emilio Zamora, a professor at The University of
Texas at Austin, received the 2019 Ruth A. Allen Pioneer in Texas
Working-Class History Award from the Texas State Historical
Association; and
WHEREAS, The Texas State Historical Association is the
state's leading historical association and the authoritative
source for Texas history worldwide; in addition to winning the Ruth
A. Allen Pioneer in Texas Working-Class History Award, Dr. Zamora
has been named the 2019-2020 president of the organization; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zamora holds a George W. Littlefield
Professorship in American History at UT Austin, as well as
affiliations with the Center for Mexican American Studies and the
Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies; his research
interests include the history of Mexicans in the United States and
their relationship with Mexico, as well as the history of Texas and
the U.S. working class; and
WHEREAS, A Fulbright recipient and a lifetime member of the
Texas Institute of Letters, Dr. Zamora has also received the Coral
Horton Tullis Memorial Prize for Best Book on Texas History, the
H. L. Mitchell Award in Southern Working Class History, the T. R.
Fehrenbach Award in Texas History, the Bolton-Kinnaird Award in
Borderlands History, and the Award of Merit for the best book
published on Texas from the Philosophical Society of Texas;
moreover, he is a two-time recipient of the Clotilde García Award
for the best book in Tejano History, and he earned the 2018 Award of
Excellence from the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural
Center in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Zamora has distinguished himself as one of the
leading scholars in his field, and he may indeed take pride in this
prestigious recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Emilio Zamora on his receipt of
the 2019 Ruth A. Allen Pioneer in Texas Working-Class History Award
from the Texas State Historical Association and extend to him
sincere best wishes for a successful tenure as TSHA president; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Zamora as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
