| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Back on My Feet Austin is hosting its annual gala and |

| 6 | 7 | | auction at the JW Marriott on April 18, 2019; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A national nonprofit organization operating in 12 |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | cities across the United States, Back on My Feet helps individuals |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | who are homeless by involving them in a unique initiative that |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | encourages fitness and provides assistance in finding employment |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and housing; participants begin by running three times a week with a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | group of peers and volunteers in an effort to build confidence, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | strength, and self-esteem; after taking part in the running regimen |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | for a month, members move to the next stage of the program, which |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | includes educational support, job training and referrals, housing |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | assistance, and financial aid; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, First founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in |

| 18 | 19 | | 2007, Back on My Feet opened its Austin chapter in 2013; since its |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | inception, the organization has seen 70 percent of its members |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | nationwide successfully move their lives forward, with thousands of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | participants earning jobs, finding housing, or completing further |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | education and training programs; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Back on My Feet is making a lasting and positive |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | difference in the lives of some our nation's most vulnerable |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | residents, and the Austin chapter is playing an important role in |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | addressing homelessness in Central Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor Back on My Feet Austin on the occasion of |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | its 2019 gala and auction and commend the organization's members |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and volunteers for their outstanding efforts; and, be it further |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
