| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Battalion Chief Juan Perez has been named |

| 6 | 7 | | Firefighter of the Year for 2018 by the Corpus Christi Fire |

| 7 | 8 | | Department in recognition of his outstanding service; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A member of the department since 2002, "Tony" Perez |

| 9 | 10 | | is assigned to Fire Station No. 5, where he has earned the respect |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | and admiration of his colleagues by taking on such additional |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | responsibilities as hazardous materials and rescue training as well |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | as career development; he is the first battalion chief to be named |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Firefighter of the Year; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Chief Perez also received the Medal of Valor award, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the department's second-highest honor, for the critical role he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | played in rescuing an elderly woman from a burning house; in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | February 2018, Chief Perez and another firefighter were among the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | first on the scene, and, without wearing protective gear, they |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | braved the smoke-filled home and quickly found the woman and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | brought her out to safety; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Tony Perez has demonstrated uncommon dedication, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | leadership, and courage as he has worked to protect the lives and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | property of his fellow citizens, and he is truly deserving of |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | special recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Battalion Chief Juan "Tony" Perez |
